Winter
On going on an obligatory Boxing Day walk, I was overjoyed to see that there was the perfect combination of the exact thin, midwinter sunshine and stark, flat landscape of one of my favourite children's books, The Winter Bear by Ruth Craft. The illustrations by Eric Blegvad are lovely, and probably why copies are going for so much on Amazon.

Cogs

It's not the best photo (I've been looking through old photos I took at college) but I think cogs, and in particular clockwork, are fascinating. I'm not sure if it's the intricate and complicated perfection of the moving parts, or the necessary quality of the craftsmanship that is so beautiful, but I could look at them for ages and feel thoroughly satisfied!

Autumn Harvest
Autumn is still my favourite season - I just wish I didn't have to work through the daylight hours and miss all the delicious colours! We had a little harvest the other day, of the grapes from next door's grape vine (the ones on our side, obviously). Our neighbours have never eaten their own fruit as they're convinced they're poisonous, despite us eating them two years in a row! We got two plant pots full of beautiful black grapes...
...and MB has made a delicious grape sorbet out of them, though now it's too cold to eat it!
I put up pictures of my favourite tree in autumn last year, so I was determined not to do it again, but I couldn't help it. I managed to restrain myself to a couple of leaves though.

Untitled
I'm not sure what this is, but it's in Irving Harper's house, and I think it is totally beautiful.
